The Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, believed to be a reincarnation of the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Avalokiteśvara. The current Dalai Lama is Tenzin Gyatso, who was recognized at the age of two as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama. He is also the head of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism.
